Demeton (Ref: ENT 17295)
Last updated: 29/08/2024
(Also known as: E 1059; mercaptophos)

SUMMARY
Demeton is an organophosphate insecticide. It has a high aqueous solubility and is highly volatile. There are considerable gaps in literature regarding its environmental fate. Demeton is highly toxic to mammals, is a neurotoxin and may adversely affect reproduction and/or development. It is also an acetyl cholinesterase inhibitor. It is highly toxic to birds and aquatic invertebrates. It moderately toxic to fish and honeybees.
Data alerts

The following alerts are based on the data in the tables below. An absence of an alert does not imply the substance has no implications for human health, biodiversity or the environment but just that we do not have the data to form a judgement.
