A relatively small black braconid wasp, about an eighth of an inch long. Females lay eggs singly in aphid nymphs. On hatching, the wasp larvae consume the aphids from inside eventually killing them. The larva pupates inside the aphid cadaver which has developed a characteristic round, golden brown, mummified appearance. The mature parasitoid emerges a week later by cutting a hole in the aphid skin. |
